About the event
OUR TEAM STORY
On June 13th we are hosting a hybrid in-person/online Pilates/stretch/yoga to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
This will be a 90-minute class held at Kate Sessions Park in Pacific Beach and streamed live on Facebook. Your admission to the event is proof of your donation to the Alzheimer’s association through this site. Can’t attend in person? We’re going to be live-streaming the event so you’re welcome to join from anywhere in the world. Don’t do Pilates or Yoga? You can still donate to a great cause!
Meet the instructors:
Estella Gardinier - @estellagardinier - “My father passed when I was 24 and so my mother was all I had. She was my best friend, the one person I could tell anything to without the fear of judgment. She loved me unconditionally. One day she knew everything about me and the next she could barely recognize me. I thought losing my father to a heart attack was the hardest thing I could ever go through, but I was wrong.” #Alzheimerssucks.
Estella is certified nutrition and brain health specialist, a certified LaGree instructor as well as a pilates and yoga instructor. She's also the season 4 winner of the Bachelor!
Carina Hodgins - @fitbycarina - “Through a hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s, I lost my grandmother in February 2019. My rock, biggest fan, and real life angel who practically raised me when I was younger. Gradually, I watched her lose the capability to remember common things, the ability to talk, and at the later stages even remembering who I was. This hurt more than anything, but I knew it was out of our control. I am so thankful to be a part of Motion for the Mind in connection with the Alzheimer’s Association care, support, and research that will hopefully put an end to this someday. Until we meet again Grammy!”
Carina is the founder of Fit by Carina and is fueled by the philosophy that mobility is equally as important as strength. She is certified in BASI Pilates and is working towards a Doctoral in Physical Therapy.
Shannon Cavese - @shanimal_shapesup - “My mom raised me as a single parent and she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s when I was in college- her mental health has severely declined over the years and I moved across the country to help care for her last year- trying to do everything I can to support her and those struggling with Alzheimer’s and loved ones/caregivers facing the grief and pain that comes along with all of it.”
Shannon is passionate about building authentic connections with her students as she helps inspire them with her workouts with energizing music and movement.
